Custom SMTP

Email rewards can be delivered either by Tremendous or by your own SMTP server. An SMTP server is a mail server that you can use to send an email from your own customized domain, instead of the standard rewards@reward.tremendous.com.

Tremendous cannot accurately report delivery status or send you failed delivery notifications if you use your own SMTP server. For accurate reward status information, we recommend using the native email delivery service.

When using a custom SMTP server, the appearance of your rewards is still controlled by your campaign template. For more control over the appearance of your reward emails, consider ordering link rewards and embedding them into your own reward emails.

Setting up custom SMTP

Custom SMTP is disabled by default and is only available to enterprise-level clients. To access custom SMTP, please reach out to your account manager or clients@tremendous.com.

Once custom SMTP has been enabled on your account, you can configure it in the Team settings > Email deliverability tab of the dashboard. The following information is required to configure custom SMTP:

  • Host: the address of the server you'll be using for outgoing emails. You can find your email provider's SMTP server host address by reviewing their documentation.
  • Port: the port number used for the connection. This depends on the provider you use. You can find the correct port number in your provider's documentation.
  • Server username and password: your email address and password. This is required for security and authentication purposes.
  • "From" email address: the email address rewards should be sent from.
  • Domain: the domain rewards should be sent from.

Once custom SMTP has been set up, email delivery events will be sent to your SMTP server instead of Tremendous. For delivery information about specific rewards, you must check your server's email delivery events.
