Products fall into four categories: prepaid cards, gift cards, monetary payouts, and charity donations.
Prepaid cards
Tremendous offers both virtual and physical prepaid cards. Prepaid cards are our most popular product and can be spent at any merchant in a supported country or region that accepts prepaid cards.
- The Virtual Visa card is available to recipients around the world. Recipients can shop online or save their card to a digital wallet to spend in-person. Learn more about Virtual Visa cards.
- The Physical Visa card ships to recipients in the United States and Puerto Rico. You can order Physical Visa cards directly to your recipients’ addresses or place a bulk order and distribute the cards yourself. Learn more about Physical Visa cards.
Gift cards
Tremendous offers more than 2000 gift cards usable in over 200 countries and regions around the world. Unlike prepaid cards, which can be spent at any merchant in a supported country or region that accepts prepaid cards, gift cards can only be used at the merchant that issued them.
Tremendous aims to carry as many gift cards as possible to offer recipients the greatest number of options, and we’re constantly adding new products to our catalog. If you don’t see a product you’re looking for, let us know.
Monetary payouts
Monetary payouts send recipients’ rewards directly to their PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, or bank account. PayPal and bank transfers are available around the world, while Venmo, instant debit transfer, and Cash App are available in the United States only.
Unlike prepaid cards and gift cards, monetary payouts have fees which cover the cost of sending the payout. You can decide to pay the fee yourself or pass it through to your recipient. Learn more about monetary payout fees.
Charity donations
In addition to redeeming a prepaid card, gift card, or monetary payout, recipients have the option to donate their reward to charity.
Recipients can redeem their reward as a donation to more than 50 charities around the world. When a recipient redeems a charity donation, we send them a donation confirmation email which they can save as a donation receipt at tax time.
What are the right reward options for my recipients?
In general, certain groups of recipients tend to select certain products:
- Virtual Visa cards are popular with recipients located all around the world. They’re most popular with tech-savvy demographics who shop online and are comfortable with digital wallets.
- Physical Visa cards are popular with US-based recipients who don’t shop online. Recipients who prefer the Physical Visa may be unfamiliar with or lack access to digital wallets.
- Gift cards are popular with recipients all around the world, but particularly in Asia, where gift cards are sometimes preferred over prepaid cards. They’re popular with both online and brick-and-mortar shoppers, who can print them out to use in-store.
- Monetary payouts are popular with recipients who receive lots of rewards and want to accumulate them in a single account. They’re also particularly popular with recipients in Europe.
- Charity donations are most popular with recipients who are already involved in charitable giving and who are receiving a reward as a nice-to-have award or gift.
Recipients are happier with more options. We recommend adding as many products to your campaign as possible so that each recipient can choose their preferred payout. During redemption, we detect the recipient’s country using their IP location and show them local redemption options only.
Depending on your program, you may need to limit the products you offer to your recipients. This may be the case if:
- You want your recipients to spend their rewards on items and activities related to your program, such as grocery-related items for a food assistance program
- Your recipients cannot spend their rewards on certain items and activities for compliance reasons, such as alcohol and tobacco restrictions related to a grant or other funding source
You can add gift cards that suit your program by selecting them individually in the campaign editor.
You can keep your campaign products up-to-date by setting up auto-add gift cards. When auto-add is enabled, any new gift cards we add to our catalog are automatically added to your campaign. Auto-add can be set up for all types of gift cards or for specific categories only, such as grocery- and food-related gift cards or digital services-related gift cards.
How can I see what my recipients are redeeming?
In the Orders and rewards > Analytics tab of the dashboard, click on Redemptions to see a percentage breakdown of the most popular redemption options.
Analytics show you overall redemption trends rather than detailed information about what each individual recipient selected.
Spend-restricted prepaid cards
Virtual Visa and Physical Visa cards can be spent at any merchant in a supported country that accepts prepaid cards. If your program is subject to compliance restrictions and your rewards must be spent at specific types of merchants, you may find that our regular Visa cards aren’t suitable.
Tremendous offers certain spend-restricted prepaid cards:
- The Virtual Visa Everyday card can be used for most everyday purchases. It cannot be used to buy alcohol, tobacco, or firearms.
- The Virtual Visa Grocery card can only be spent at grocery stores.
- The Virtual Visa Healthcare card can only be spent at healthcare providers, including pharmacies, doctors' offices, dentists, hospitals, and others.
- The Virtual Visa Mobility card can only be spent on transportation and fuel. Supported merchants include gas stations, rideshare services, subways, buses, trains, toll systems, EV charging stations, and parking.
If compliance restrictions prevent you from offering the regular Virtual or Physical Visa to your recipients, but you still want to offer your recipients a flexible spending option, contact our team to discuss spend-restricted prepaid cards.
