Virtual Visa Grocery cards

The Virtual Visa Grocery card is a restricted prepaid card that can only be spent at grocery stores. Attempted transactions at other merchants will be declined.

You can use your Virtual Visa Grocery card at any grocery store in 212 countries and regions around the world that accepts prepaid cards.

Virtual Visa Grocery cards can be used online or in-person.

  • To buy groceries online, select “credit” as the payment method and enter the 16-digit card number, expiration date, and CVV like a normal credit card. Virtual Visa Grocery cards can be used with any billing address.
  • Virtual cards typically are not accepted at brick-and-mortar stores unless they are first added to a digital wallet. To add the card to a digital wallet, see: Can I add my card to Apple Pay or Google Wallet?

When paying in-store, select “credit” instead of “debit”. Debit transactions may be declined. Then, tap your mobile device at the point of sale to pay with your digital wallet.

Some grocery stores do not accept prepaid cards. If your preferred grocer doesn’t accept your prepaid card, contact us at help@tremendous.com and we can help exchange your prepaid card for a gift card.

Spending small balances

When using your Virtual Visa Grocery card, any transaction you make must be equal to or less than the remaining balance on the card. If you try to make a transaction greater than the remaining balance, the card will decline.

Most physical grocery stores allow split transactions, where you can pay for a single transaction with two or more payment methods. To make a split transaction:

  1. Add your card to a digital wallet like Apple Wallet or Google Pay. For instructions, see: Can I add my card to Apple Pay or Google Wallet?
  2. The next time you shop at a physical grocery store, ask the cashier if you can make a split transaction for the card’s remaining balance. If you’re not sure how much balance is left on your card, see: How do I check my card balance?
  3. Open the digital wallet app on your mobile device and tap it on the payment terminal to complete payment.

Why can't I spend my card at other merchants?

Certain reward senders are subject to rules and regulations regarding the types of payouts they can send to recipients. As a result, they may not be able to send unrestricted prepaid Visa cards.

Unlike grocery gift cards, which are only accepted at specific grocery stores, the Virtual Visa Grocery card can be used at any grocery store that accepts prepaid cards. Reward senders may choose to send a Virtual Visa Grocery card instead of a traditional grocery gift card to give you more flexibility in where you can shop.
