While all of our fraud prevention rules help you flag fraudulent redemptions, customizing your ruleset can make your fraud prevention more effective. The three recommended rules are effective for all clients, and additional rules can be tailored to suit your unique program.
Recommended rules
These rules are effective regardless of which industry you’re in or the makeup of your recipients — plus, they only require one click to enable.
Flag rewards redeemed by previously blocked recipients
This rule identifies recipients your team has previously blocked, even when they redeem from a different IP or email address, and flags rewards they redeem. If your team blocks a recipient once, it’s recommended that you continue to flag their rewards going forward to stop repeat offenders.
Flag based on the Tremendous fraud list
Our algorithm detects suspicious recipients across millions of payouts within the Tremendous network. This rule flags any rewards those suspicious recipients redeem. This is an easy way to flag potential fraud that we’re seeing across our network that you may not otherwise catch.
Flag if device or account has multiple associated emails
This rule flags rewards redeemed by devices or accounts linked to multiple recipient emails. If this is the case, it could be a fraudster cycling through different email addresses to redeem additional rewards.
Rules based on recipient activity
Beyond the three recommended rules, additional rules can be used to define limits and restrictions for certain recipient behaviors and attributes.
The most effective ruleset will depend on your Tremendous use case and the expected makeup of your recipient base. For example, if you expect all of your recipients to be located in a specific country, you can choose to flag redemptions that take place outside of the expected country.
Allow rules
Allow rules ensure that certain recipients can always redeem their rewards without being flagged.
Allow specific IP addresses
Rewards redeemed using allowed IP addresses will never be flagged for review. This is useful if you send employee recognition rewards, since redemptions will often take place at a shared office building or on a company VPN.
Allow based on recipient email
Rewards redeemed by allowed recipient emails will never be flagged for review. This is useful for recipients who don't match typical recipient characteristics, such as a VIP affiliate who receives more rewards than other recipients or a study participant who happens to be in a different country.
